2016 ECOSOC High-Level Segment - Open Call for Oral and Written Statements (28 March - 15 April 2016)
The Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs is pleased to announce an open call for oral and written statements for the 2016 ECOSOC High-Level Segment (HLS) for NGOs in ECOSOC consultative status. The open call will be held from 28 March to 15 April 2016.
The theme for the 2016 session of the Economic and Social Council is "Implementing the post-2015 development agenda: moving from commitments to results".
The HLS will be held from 18 to 22 July 2016 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This is a unique opportunity for organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC - and for civil society at large - to be heard at ECOSOC deliberations, as well as to contribute to issues of critical concern to the global development agenda. It will also provide a platform to address specifically, steps toward implementation, follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to track progress at all levels and ensure that no one is left behind.
The HLS will include the three-day ministerial meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF), convened under the auspices of the Council; the high-level policy dialogue with international financial and trade institutions; the biennial Development Cooperation Forum; and the thematic discussion on "Infrastructure for sustainable development for all". The theme of the 2016 HLPF, "Ensuring that no one is left behind", will provide an opportunity to focus on the goals and policy choices that will benefit the poorest and most vulnerable among us.
